Indonesia (06/06) — The chairman of the Prosperous Justice Party (F-PKS) faction of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) Jazuli Juwaini strongly condemned the statement by Indian politician from the Barathiya Janata Party (BJP) Nupur Sharma who insulted the Prophet Muhammad SAW in an Indian television program. Insulting the Prophet Muhammad SAW destroys the peace, mutual respect between the followers of the world’s religions.”

According to the member of Commission I of the House of Representatives, his remarks hurt not only Muslims in India but throughout the world, causing turmoil in India and protests from Muslim communities around the world.

“It is stifling to see Islamophobia, which can be seen from the statement by the Indian politician who came from the ruling party in India. His mouth was sarcastic in insulting the Prophet Muhammad SAW, causing anger in India and the Islamic world,” said Jazuli, who is also Vice President of the World Muslim Parliament Members Forum ( IIFP)

The Indian government, said Jazuli Juwaini, must take firm action against this kind of politician because it is clearly detrimental to India both at home and abroad. His words have the potential to invite conflict so as to disrupt world order and peace.

“The turmoil in India can cause chaos and instability in the country. Meanwhile, abroad, India will get negative sentiments for this intolerance, hostility, and aggression,” said Jazuli.

Muslim religious leaders, figures and residents around the world have expressed expressions, comments and statuses on social media for the insulting remarks to the Prophet Muhammad by BJP spokesman Nupur Sharma and BJP Delhi leader Naveen Kumar Jindal. Muslims around the world have called for a boycott of India and have specifically targeted the social media accounts of the Hindu-Nationalist party (BJP) which is currently ruling in India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
